Team Building Through Music^TM was founded in November of 2004 by members of Roberts Music Institute and Thoughtful Arts to implement an idea by famed hydroplane driver Chip Hanauer.

Chip Hanauer's Idea:

"As I began to study classical guitar and the fundamentals of music, I saw that the dynamics that make music, "work" are virtually the same principles which enable people to work together towards a common goal. It was obvious to me that music is the perfect model in which to visualize and understand how we can all work together more effectively, with less conflict and misunderstanding. Comprehending some basic music principles, helps us understand how to enjoy working together with others more."

"I approached the faculty at the, 'Roberts Music Institute,' in Bellevue, with a simple question, 'can you teach people, with no musical background or education, to play a couple of songs together, on real instruments and have it sound good, in one business day'? They were challenged by the question and developed a curriculum which netted the desired result. People playing music together, that they can be proud of, on real instruments, in one eight hour day."
